Social media users were left stunned after the LAND Party announced author, poet and activist Nontsikelelo “Ntsiki” Mazwai as its mayoral candidate for the City of Johannesburg.
In a media statement, the party announced: “The LAND PARTY unveils Comrade Nontsikelelo ‘Ntsiki’ Mazwai, the Mayor of Ama2K, as its Mayoral Candidate for the City of Johannesburg.”
The announcement quickly sparked a flood of reactions across social media, with many users expressing surprise. Some jokingly posted comments such as, “We’re not playing here.”
Mazwai has long been one of South Africa’s most outspoken public figures, regularly making headlines for her strong views on politics and social issues.
She recently found herself at the centre of another social media storm after claiming that “March and March people” were targeting her. The remark triggered widespread debate, with many users criticizing her. Some also mocked her by using nicknames such as “Mangcola,” “Msangwini,” and other derogatory labels.
Despite the backlash, the LAND Party has thrown its full support behind Mazwai, saying it believes she has the leadership qualities needed to govern Johannesburg and bring change to the city.
