One of Cape Town’s best-known waterfront hotels has entered a new chapter following an extensive R1 billion redevelopment that has transformed the historic Table Bay Hotel into the InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town.
The hotel officially reopened on 15 December 2025 following an 18-month redevelopment, bringing a new luxury hospitality offering to the entrance of the V&A Waterfront.
The transformation marks a significant development for Cape Town’s hospitality industry, with the property becoming the city’s first InterContinental-branded hotel under IHG Hotels & Resorts.
The redevelopment has modernised the hotel’s accommodation, public spaces, restaurants and leisure facilities while retaining its prominent position overlooking Table Bay, Robben Island and the Atlantic Ocean.
The property now offers 306 rooms, including 40 suites, following a redesign that reduced the total room count from 329 to provide more spacious accommodation.
Among the new facilities is Club InterContinental, which offers an elevated hospitality experience with exclusive lounge access and personalised guest services.
The hotel has also introduced SPA InterContinental, a modern fitness studio and an upgraded swimming pool terrace.
Food and hospitality form an important part of the redevelopment.
Four dining and beverage venues have been introduced, including Flint & Fennel, the hotel’s signature restaurant, and Le Bistrot de JAN, the first South African bistro by internationally recognised chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen.
The other venues include The Botanist’s Table, a cocktail bar inspired by the Cape’s botanical heritage, and Solandra, a poolside restaurant serving wood-fired pizzas and other casual dining options.
The hotel is owned by the V&A Waterfront, operated by Sun International and branded under IHG Hotels & Resorts.
Its redevelopment reflects continued investment in Cape Town’s premium hospitality market and the importance of established tourism properties in attracting international visitors.
For travellers, the renewed hotel combines its historic waterfront location with contemporary accommodation, dining and leisure experiences.
The property remains one of the prominent landmarks at the V&A Waterfront, a major attraction for domestic and international tourists visiting the Mother City.
