Nine Bangladeshi nationals have been prevented from entering South Africa after allegedly attempting to enter the country using fraudulent travel documents at OR Tambo International Airport.
According to preliminary information, the group consisted of three women and six men. The three women reportedly presented Bangladeshi passports upon arrival. However, the six men allegedly presented Indian passports to immigration officials.
Authorities became suspicious during routine questioning and screening procedures. Following further interviews, the six men reportedly admitted that they were Bangladeshi nationals and subsequently produced Bangladeshi passports.
Officials also discovered that some of the travel documents presented were allegedly fraudulent, leading to the group being denied entry into South Africa.
The matter is now being handled by immigration authorities, who are expected to conduct further investigations into the authenticity of the documents and the circumstances surrounding the attempted entry.
South African border authorities continue to strengthen security measures at ports of entry as part of efforts to combat illegal immigration, human trafficking, and document fraud.
Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have not yet released the identities of the individuals involved.
