“WE’RE FIGHTING FOR EVERY WARD!” SABELA DECLARES AS ANC TARGETS ALL 112
The ANC in eThekwini is going into the local government elections with all guns blazing.
The party has confirmed that it will contest every one of eThekwini’s 112 wards, along with all 111 proportional representation seats.
The declaration was made by ANC eThekwini Region RTT Coordinator Thanduxolo Sabela during an Extraordinary Branch Forum held at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) this afternoon.
Sabela said the meeting was about getting ANC members ready for the political fight ahead.
“Today we held an Extraordinary Branch Forum to prepare the troops for the battle ahead. The ANC in eThekwini Region is contesting all 112 wards and all 111 PR seats. Victory is certain,” said Sabela.
The announcement comes at a crucial time for the ANC.
Questions have been raised about the party’s election readiness after it failed to submit candidates in some municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape and Mangaung.
That failure has fuelled uncertainty over whether the ANC would be able to field candidates across all the areas where it intends to contest.
But eThekwini appears to be sending a different message.
Sabela’s announcement makes it clear that the ANC intends to put up a fight in every corner of the municipality, with no ward being left uncontested.
The move is likely to intensify the political battle in eThekwini, where opposition parties are also preparing to challenge the ANC for control of the municipality.
For the ANC, the message from the Extraordinary Branch Forum is simple: the candidates are coming, the troops are being prepared and every ward is up for grabs.
The real test will come when voters head to the polls.
